Write "See ID" On Your Credit Cards

It is a scary moment when you open your wallet or purse and realize that your credit card is missing. It is even scarier when you lose the entire wallet or purse. While you never want to have that happen, you should be prepared for it if it does. So how do I protect my credit? Write “See ID” on the signature strip on the back of your credit cards. Some people will say that retailers are not supposed to ask for ID while others say that they don’t ask even if they are supposed to. Do not buy into that. Some retailers won’t pay attention and that is unfortunate. But some will. Writing “See ID” is the safest bet when it comes to your credit cards. It is better than signing your name because someone could just practice the signature and then sign receipts with your name. And never leave it blank, or else the thief can fill in the name with their own handwriting. Always call to cancel your cards immediately upon realizing they have been lost or stolen, and request a consumer credit report to make sure your score was not damaged.
