Are you applying for more credit than you can handle?

Don't Overextend Yourself

The first thing that people should know about credit is that you should never overextend yourself. Think about the line of credit that you are applying for and think about the terms and conditions that come with it.

Is the interest rate being offered going to cost you more in the long run than the benefits the credit will bring you in the short run?

Can you honestly meet the repayment requirements each month without problems? If making the payments on the credit you are about to get means that you will be late or default on other bills, it is not worth it. You are incurring more debt and hurting your credit score with late payments and penalties.

Credit Basics 101: Bad credit problems snowball. Take on what you know you can handle and handle it well. If you do that, you will be more financially stable and able to handle more credit down the line. You will see evidence of that not only in your daily life, but in your online credit report.
